Greetings Chaplaincy Friends,
“The opportunity to accompany individuals in their moments of need, to listen deeply
and bear witness to their stories, is at the heart of what it means to serve as a chaplain.”
Rev. Fred Meade
Spring greetings to our friends of the Upper Cape Chaplaincy,
This Spring we are grateful for the success of this year’s work of our chaplains in fulfilling the mission of the Upper Cape Chaplaincy at JML Care Center and Falmouth Hospital. In each of their work days, they provide for the spiritual and emotional needs of the patients, families and staff members of these Upper Cape healthcare facilities in an interfaith and ecumenical manner. Providing thousands of hours of service to people who may be in pain, distress and turmoil, they meet folks in the present moment, wherever they are in life’s journey with a “less anxious presence” (in the chaplains’ words.)
This year we said goodbye to Reverend Katherine Pelletreau who moved back to her home in Maine, but who may do some per diem work at Falmouth Hospital when visiting Falmouth. In her place we welcomed Reverend Fred Meade who comes with extensive experience as a chaplain. He joins our team of chaplains, Reverends Manny Aran and Saramaria Allenby at Falmouth Hospital. Reverend Jim Schutter continues his ministry at JML Care Center and as per diem at Falmouth Hospital.
This past September the Chaplaincy started an exciting new initiative of Community Chaplaincy which provides various chaplain outreach programs with the public. Reverend Allenby is spearheading this new effort, collaborating with a number of community groups. She is working with individuals and in group settings. This is cutting edge chaplaincy in the country right now, and we are excited to see it happen here.
Because we have this expansion of services into the community and because the Chaplaincy Board is still subsidizing Cape Cod Healthcare’s portion of the Chaplaincy Program at Falmouth Hospital, we depend on the generosity of our member houses of worship and individuals for the success of our mission.
We ask that you consider a donation to our vital chaplaincy work in healthcare and in the community. A donation, of any size would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration, and wishing you blessings in your days,
Ann Stone, President, Board of the Upper Cape Chaplaincy
